The Alpine Dairy Goat is also referred to as the French Alpine or the American Alpine. The Alpine goat is a medium to large size animal that thrives in any climate while maintaining good health and excellent milk production. They are hardy, adaptable, alert and graceful. They have upright ears and all color combinations are seen in the breed. The hair is short to medium in length, the face is straight and beautiful. They have a gentle nature and love people and know their herdsman.

The American Alpines is an American original. The breed is the result of crossbreeding which has brought in genetics from several breeds and gives the American Alpine one of the largest gene pools of any goat breed. This has led to American Alpines setting production records and winning at shows.

The History of Alpine goats is quite colorful and documents their adaptability. Early on they were used for voyages which were made possible by taking along goats along for milk and meat. Sea captains often left a pair of goats on an island along their route and on return voyages could stop and find meat and milk waiting. Today Alpines are found thriving in nearly every climate.

While Alpines make excellent dairy producers, the bucks make good meat animals and will grow as fast as the meat breeds. Alpine wethers make excellent pack goats. Alpine milk has a high protein and butterfat content and makes wonderful cheese. Alpines produce a high volume of milk over a long lactation period of one to three years. Alpines produce well on pasture or in dry-lotted hay fed conditions. They are known for being exceptionally hardy, curious, and friendly. For these reasons and many more we have chosen this breed.
